Mid Northants Raynet Group Report for 2005

The Year started as usual with the Multi-terrain Runs at Irchester Country Park for Just Racing. They entailed a series of three races on three weekends starting on January 23rd then 20th February and concluding on March 20th.

The Wendover Multiterrain 5 race on 16th January was offered to Aylesbury Raynet as it was in their operations region, they readily accepted.

We then attended The Duston Triathlon on17th April. then the Grendon Triathlon on 5th June and the Northampton Classic Triathlon on 10th July (This had been moved due a clash with The British Grand Prix at Silverstone the Triathletes use some of the roads that are on the route to the Circuit). These events make up part of the Northampton Triathlon Series.
Mid Northants Raynet were instructed to attend an exercise at Sixfields as part of a CEPO exercise and all members attended at 7.00 am and other local units put on standby (Daventry and North Northants).

On our arrival the County Controller was informed that our services were not required as Raynet's role had been written out of the scenario months earlier, unfortunately Cepo communications had failed to inform the local controllers or the County Controller of their decision. This ‘oversight’ had ensured that in excess of 36 Raynet personnel had been stood too and now had to be stood down.

The rest of the Day members watched the CEPO exercise (such as it was) via ATV the whole scenario being televised by local amateurs from web cams and cameras into GB3MV; it soon became very apparent why Raynet was not required.

The next event that the group attended was the Sunshine Endurance Horse Ride this was held at Castlethorpe and covered parts of Milton Keynes as well as Northamptonshire, the horse ride was almost entirely cross-country. (This event had been passed to us by Milton Keynes Raynet whom had found themselves with a double booking).

The Group was then called to attend a charity horse/pony ride at Althorpe, we originally thought that it was around the surrounding countryside, but found that it was in fact in the grounds of the Earl Spencer namely Althorpe Park Mid Northants Raynet and the charity riders were the only persons allowed access to the grounds (Earl Spencer and family paid us a visit while we were active, and showed a definite interest in our activities).

The last 2005 event for Just Racing, The Roade Triathlon on 25th September concluded the Northampton Triathlon Series.

The Cynthia Spencer Cycle Ride was also held once again, starting and finishing at Moulton Park, this is a charity cycle ride which has a circular route of over 50miles with shorter easier routes for the younger or less fit, we attended once again but found the expertise of the organizers lacking, although we had sent a member to attend their planning meetings he was not able to confer with them, as they did not turn up at the prescribed place or time. In consequence Raynet had no updated route map, and had not been told that the route was now anticlockwise, not clockwise, as previously. The consensus of opinion of the members was that although this was for charity, it was imperative that the group is totally briefed on the event prior to arrival, if not it would not be interested in participating next year.

Some members of the Mid-Northants Raynet Group were invited by a mutual friend, we actually assisted him on the Jamboree on the Air 2005 station for the scouts of Banbury, he was one of the organizers of a 24 hour hike for young people, which Banbury Raynet marshal and they were requesting assistance, so we assisted.
