Health and Safety is an important consideration in all
aspects of electrical contracting.
The floodlight assembly for the riding school has been put together at ground level. In so doing, the only task that needs to be done at height is the fitting of the whole assembly to the pole. Besides, it's a lot easier to wire up junction boxes at ground level than 7m in the air. |

The stud farm and riding school were fitted with low energy lighting. The total power consumption for the ten stables and yard lighting comes to a mere 307 watts. The brilliant light at top centre comes from one of the two 400W metal halide floodlights mentioned in the first picture. |

A light industrial unit based at a local farm reported that
the electric motor on the sheet metal guillotine had stopped
working.
The problem was traced to one of the phases of the incoming supply. The fault was in a junction box that had filled with water and sludge over the years. The red phase terminal (inset picture) had become corroded, and as a result the joint had high resistance and eventually failed through heat damage. Main picture shows a new plastic junction box being fitted. |

Agricultural and horticultural premises are Special Locations within the BS7671Wiring Regulations. Cattle are especially sensitive to electric shocks and are greatly disturbed by them. A faulty earth connection could easily result in the surrounding ground becoming partially electrified and affecting livestock. |
