Nash Electric Carries out domestic and commercial electrical contracting.

The pictures below give an idea of the kind of domestic work undertaken.

Fitting downlighters to a remodelled kitchen.

Often, in order to lay the cables for downlighters, it's necessary to take up the floor in the room above (left). Once the cables have been put in position, the downlighters (right) can be fitted.

Conventional downlighters use 50W halogen lightbulbs, which give a rather intense light and strong shadows. Newly developed low-energy lightbulbs are now available that provide comparable illumination to 50W halogens, but consume on 11 watts. They are available in 'warm white' with a colour temperature of 2700K

Installing a consumer unit at a dwelling in Buckingham

This consumer unit was located in a rather unusual position.

Anatomy of a consumer unit
Modern consumer units have built-in RCD protection against electrical shock. They are usually installed so that one RCD will protect a group of circuits.
Each circuit (e.g. cooker, upstairs lights, downstairs sockets) is protected by an individual circuit breaker that protects against the cable becoming overloaded - and possibly catching fire.

Here a full inspection is being carried out as part of the commissioning procedure for a new consumer unit.

The resulting NICEIC certificate is recognized by insurance companies as evidence of the condition of the electrical installation.

Digging a trench prior to laying cable for garden lighting project (Nash).

BS7671 Wiring Regulations suggest that cable should be laid at least 500mm (20") below the surface.

New houses need meter cupboards

The house is having an extension built, and the outside wall that contained the meter cupboard will become the inside wall of the kitchen.

The meter cupboard had to be moved to an outside wall. EON then came along and wired up a new supply and meter.

Work like this has to be carefully planned, because whilst in progress there is no electricity supply.

In the kitchen - plastering over the cracks ...
An unqualified kitchen fitter had repositioned a socket so that a kitchen cabinet could be fitted. The original socket (right) was removed and replaced with a junction box, put in a polythene bag and plastered over. Further up, where the cabinet was fixed to the wall, he had drilled a hole that touched the side of the original cable.
This kind of installation violates the Wiring Regulations many times over.
Much of the original wiring and poor installation had to be removed and installed correctly.
First fix on domestic premises at Little Brickhill.

Getting one's hands dirty? Not with protective gloves!

Using a core cutter to cut a 100mm (4") hole in a wall so that an extractor fan could be fitted in a newly-installed shower room.

The Building Regulations 2000 require all new dwellings to have ventilation installed in toilets, bathrooms, showers and kitchens. It is not mandatory on existing premises, but a very good idea nonetheless.

But is it art?
The picture on the left is a hole drilled by the customer to put a picture on the wall. Directly beneath this is the hall cupboard where the fuse box is located. The drill went right through the live and earth of the ring main cable(right).
The black stains of the wall are all the remain of the drill bit which vaporised when it came in contact with the live wire.
Electrical installation of 3-zone central heating system (Honeywell S-Plan) in Giffard Park.

This work was carried out at short notice for a property management company in Stony Stratford.

Although Nash Electric is not registered with CORGI or OFTEC, it is called out from time to time to sort out unusual wiring problems.

A typical job would be on a recently upgraded system to which a new condensing boiler and wireless thermostat-programmer had been fitted. The wireless device didn't work reliably in the building owing to thick stone walls, so the original time switch and thermostat were reinstated.
